What is the best thing to do for a fever?

My son woke up this morning with a fever of 101....he is 2 years old..we took him to the dr and she gave us childrens' motrin..my husband, who obvioulsy is NOT a MOM. sorry guys..decided he need to take him in the car for a nap and then to go FISHING.he came home and the fever was down a little, but still like 99-100. is there anything else we (I) can do? i am on antibiotics now bec i have such a sore throat..i am just nervous bec we got through the 1st year without him being sick.
